Going on Vacation!
Yes, that is right – plans have been made, airfare booked and the adventure is set to begin June 13, 2008.
The locale for the 2008 vacation? Well, a little hint would bring to mind wide open spaces, star filled nights and the smell of pine trees. The rest is up to you to guess!
I’m thrilled to be embarking on this adventure with two great friends and the possibility of meeting some more fun and entertaining people along the way.
Somehow just knowing that there is an adventure in June makes the dreariness of March just a little easier to bear.
Washington D.C. to Philly via Gettysburg, PA
Saturday was a beautiful day with blue skies and warm breezes, perfect for touring Gettysburg. After an adventure in procuring the rental car from Union Station in Washington DC I was finally on my way. Or so I thought. After an hour and a half of trying to find my way out of Washington and not get picked up for trying to make a right turn at a red light, performing an untold number of three point turns and becoming hoplessly lost in the process I finally found the main road through central DC – Georgia Ave. And what a ride. After securely locking my doors, hiding my purse under my seat, my laptop in the trunk I then gave my best “I know where I’m going” attitude and headed through the ghetto, Chinatown, signs in Spanish and other savory parts of town all the while sticking to Georgia Avenue like glue – believing with all my heart that it would lead me to the outer loop. And guess what it did! So it was then with a lighter heart that I made the trip to Gettysburg.
Gettysburg was amazing, the monuments, the history, the emotions that still reside in that little town. And of course the buses, minivans, RVs and cars filled with both young and old who all came to see the site which changed history. After touring the Cemetary andwatching a 30 minute electric map presentation I then embarked upon the 2 hour auto tour of Little Big Top, the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield, the Ridge and other related significant places and monuments to the Battle at Gettysburg. It was amazing. Truly it would take days to see the entire area and to absorb significance of each location.
Following a night at historic York, PA (where there were numerous dogs in residence due to it being a Dog Show weekend) I then moseyed my way into Philly where I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Barnes and Noble while waiting for my room to be prepared. All in all a lovely weekend.
