Worth it all?

What makes a job “worthy” of putting up with the aggravating features of the position?

Is it the salary (mine is minimal), the power (nonexistent), the environment in which a person works (nice when I can enjoy it), the contribution to the “greater good” (whatever that might be)? This is something that has been floating through my mind the past 2.5 days (ever since I arrived in Miami late Sunday evening).  And I have been taking a critical look at what I do – the hours I keep at the office and the hours I keep while on the road auditing (and noting significant discrepancies between the two), and the workload while at each location.  And I do wonder as I approach day 3 of working till 9pm – is this worth it all?

So I have no additional insights to offer aside from the fact that I’m hungry (missed lunch for the 2nd day in a row) and I know that it will be at least 10pm if not midnight before I finish up for the day.  The sad thing is that I’m in Miami – and although the hotel is removed from the city – it would still be nice to finish at a reasonable hour, watch the sunset from the pool deck and then have dinner on the restaurant patio.  It would be nice.
